Warwickshire completely dominated the second day at Edgbaston, seizing control of a tense County Championship clash with Yorkshire. After enjoying the upper hand on day one, Yorkshire resumed on the second morning at 110-4 but were dismissed for 152, as Harry Brook’s dismissal (40) triggered a collapse that saw six wickets fall for just 15 runs in 15 overs. Former White Rose players Olly Hannon-Dalby (4-38) and Jordan Thompson (3-14) were the chief architects of Yorkshire’s downfall.

Trailing by only five runs—a far cry from the much larger deficit that had seemed likely—Warwickshire then progressed to 267-3 in their second innings, powered by Rob Yates (81), Dan Mousley (70), and Sam Hain (43 not out). The pitch slightly eased, but the freer scoring was more a result of more disciplined batting and less controlled bowling compared to the first four sessions.

In the morning, Brook and Jonny Bairstow (25) brought Yorkshire within 10 runs of Warwickshire’s total before falling in successive overs. Both times the off-stump was sent flying back toward the wicketkeeper as Brook missed a drive off Ethan Bamber and Bairstow shouldered arms to Hannon-Dalby. Warwickshire’s seamers maintained relentless pressure, matching Yorkshire’s first-day intensity. They received outstanding support from second slip, where Yates held catches off Hannon-Dalby, Thompson, and Ed Barnard to account for three of the last four wickets. The final wicket—a sensational one-handed diving catch to his right to remove Jack White and give Thompson his 200th first-class wicket—rounded off a stunning session for the home side.

Such was the flurry of wickets that a five-over session before lunch proved a tricky test for openers Yates and Alex Davies. They navigated it safely and added 95 in 29 overs before Davies (38) was caught at extra cover off Matt Revis. Yates reached a 67-ball half-century with his 10th four, flicking off his pads toward the construction site where a new stand will be named after Dennis Amiss, but eventually fell to a fine lifting ball from White that he edged to first slip.

Yorkshire’s bowlers could not replicate the pressure of the previous day, and Mousley and Hain added 82 in 24 overs. Mousley eventually top-edged a pull off Logan van Beek to fine leg, but Warwickshire have built a position from which they can dictate the remainder of the match. The key question for them, when considering a declaration, will be how much the pitch has flattened. With the likes of Brook and Bairstow in their batting lineup, Yorkshire remain very much in the contest.
