In the Indianapolis Grand Prix, Mick Schumacher’s promising run was cut short when he spun Santino Ferrucci just three laps from the finish, resulting in a costly penalty that dropped him from 12th to 20th.

Starting from 18th on the grid, Schumacher made steady progress, partly aided by multi-car incidents, and was fighting for 11th place when he misjudged his overtake attempt. Entering the Turn 8-9 section, he made contact with Ferrucci’s rear, spinning the AJ Foyt Racing driver. Although Schumacher continued in 11th, race control penalized him with a drive-through for avoidable contact, which he served on the final lap. The rookie ultimately finished 20th, while Ferrucci recovered to 14th.

This costly mistake prevented Schumacher from securing his best-ever IndyCar finish and cost him 11 points in the championship standings, sliding him from 23rd to 25th.

Schumacher admitted fault, telling Frontstretch.com: “I was trying to set up for Turn 10, but I didn’t expect him to check up that much and just got into him.”

The RLL Racing driver now shifts focus to the Indianapolis 500, where he will be one of four rookies in the field alongside Dennis Hauger, Caio Collet, and Jacob Abel. He will also have extra support from new teammate Takuma Sato, a two-time Indy 500 winner and fellow ex-Formula 1 driver. Notably, there appears to be no bad blood between Schumacher and Ferrucci—the two were seen golfing together at the speedway on Monday.
