Roberto García Parrondo, an outstanding coach
/ MT MELSUNGEN

Paris Saint-Germain’s handball team has set its sights on a clear candidate for its future coaching role. According to a report from French newspaper L’Équipe on Sunday, the Parisian club has reached an agreement with Roberto García Parrondo for the Spanish coach to take charge starting in 2027. The report indicates that the current MT Melsungen head coach will replace Stefan Madsen in two seasons. Although the Danish coach has only been at the helm of the French side for a few months, PSG’s management is already planning a new era to revitalize the sporting project. L’Équipe reveals that the deal has been orchestrated with a view to summer 2027, when both Madsen’s contract and García Parrondo’s deal with Melsungen expire. PSG would not consider an earlier replacement due to the financial cost of compensating both the Danish coach and the German club. The French newspaper adds that Parrondo himself would welcome a move in 2027, as it would give him ample time to help shape the future Parisian squad. The Spanish coach’s vision is to land in a project tailored to his needs, capable of competing for all titles immediately.
Roberto García Parrondo’s name has been linked to several top European clubs for some time, thanks to his excellent work in Germany. The Madrid-born coach has led MT Melsungen since 2021, turning the team into one of the most competitive in the Bundesliga. Before his stint in German handball, the Spanish tactician left his mark at RK Vardar, winning the Champions League in 2019.

The potential arrival of the Spanish coach, again according to L’Équipe, is part of a larger revolution being prepared by PSG Handball. The French club has been working on a sporting and economic reorganization that affects both the squad and the technical structure. The club’s intention is to build a more sustainable project without sacrificing its ambition to win the Champions League, the team’s biggest unfulfilled goal. Moreover, this bet on a Spanish coach aligns with the trust Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has already shown in football. The Qatari executive found stability and competitive success with Luis Enrique at the helm of the first team, and now seems determined to double down on Spanish talent in handball as well.
In recent years, PSG has gradually restructured with several key departures and a more pronounced fiscal policy than in previous phases. Within this context, the choice of García Parrondo reflects the profile the club seeks: international experience, managerial skills, and knowledge of the highest European level. If the deal is confirmed, Roberto García Parrondo would become one of the Spanish coaches with the greatest responsibility in continental handball, taking control of one of Europe’s top clubs of the last decade.
