Tommy Fleetwood, who secured his first PGA Tour victory in August 2025, delivered a second-round 67 to trail South Korea’s Sungjae Im by a single stroke at the Truist Championship. The Englishman posted five birdies and one bogey, matching his opening-round score to sit at eight under par after 36 holes at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.
Im, the leader at nine under, carded a steady 69 on Friday. Fleetwood’s compatriot Alex Fitzpatrick and American Justin Thomas are tied for third at seven under, one further back. Alex Fitzpatrick holds a nine-shot advantage over his older brother, world number three Matt Fitzpatrick, who stands at two over for the tournament.
Masters champion Rory McIlroy followed a first round that included 17 consecutive pars with a bogey-free 67 that featured six birdies despite dropped shots at the second and 18th holes. The Northern Irishman is tied for eighth at five under, alongside Rickie Fowler, who surged up the leaderboard with a stunning eight-under 63—the best round of the day by four strokes and an 11-shot improvement on his opening 74.
First-round leader Matt McCarty, who opened with a 63, slipped to a 74 on Friday, dropping into a tie with McIlroy and Fowler at five under. The no-cut event is the final tournament before the US PGA Championship, scheduled for 14–17 May at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
