Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet shared his thoughts on the performance of 22-year-old forward Alex Bump.

The American made his NHL playoff debut this season, scoring two goals in six games. In Game 4 of the second-round Stanley Cup series against the Carolina Hurricanes, which the Flyers lost 2-3 in overtime (trailing 0-4 in the series), Bump tied the game at 5:52 of the third period, forcing overtime. This came after he had allowed Logan Stankoven to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead at 4:13 of the third period.

“Bump made a mistake on the second goal, then he came back and tied it. He didn’t sit on the bench and pout. He understood he made an error. He goes out and – bang! – the puck is in the net. That’s the progress you want to see – he learns from it and steps up when it matters. I hold that up as an example for the young guys,” Tocchet said.
